Who is responsible for assessing or responding when a student may be at risk?

Trained adults are responsible for assessment, crisis response, safety planning, parent or caregiver communication, documentation, and clinical or administrative decisions. Hope Squad Members are never responsible for determining whether someone is suicidal, investigating a concern, or managing a crisis. Hope Squad strengthens the pathway to help by preparing students to notice concerns and involve trusted adults earlier.
